Thao Ms Nguyen

Thao Nguyen is currently working as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Mesenchymal Stem Cell Laboratory, School of Medicine, Division of Health Sciences, University of Adelaide. She completed her PhD study at the University of South Australia on the 20th of August 2015 with thesis entitled “The role of Eph/ephrin interactions in mesenchymal stem cell-mediated support of haematopoiesis and immune cell regulation”. Prior to her PhD study, Thao completed a Bachelor of Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the University of South Australia in 2003 and worked as a Research Assistant in various laboratories across Australia including Molecular Pathology (SA Pathology), Cell Therapy (Queensland Institute of Medical Research), Numico Research Australia, Molecular Markers (University of Adelaide) and Oocyte Biology (University of Adelaide). Thao has obtained two first author, five co-author peer reviewed publications and presented in nine national and international conferences. In addition, she was the finalist of the Ross Wishart Memorial Award at the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR) SA Meeting in June 2015. Thao also was the recipient of the Best Student Oral Presentation Award at the Australasian Stem Cell Science (ASSCR) and Therapy Meeting in 2014, Student Poster Award at the ASMR Meeting in 2013, two national travel grants awarded by the National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia and one international travel grant awarded by the International Society for Hematology and Stem Cells (ISEH) to present her work at the ISEH Annual Meeting in Vienna in 2013. Thao is a member of research communities including ASSCR, ISEH, ASMR and Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand. Thao's research interests focus on the mechanisms underlying mesenchymal stem cell function in bone tissue regeneration, haematopoietic support and immunomodulation.
