Nilay Thakar
During my PhD in Stem Cell Biology, I won 16 awards and scholarships and had 8 publications (3 first-authored, 5 co-authored). The University of Queensland placed me in the Top 2% of graduates and honoured me as a Class of 2013 Future Leader. Currently, I work as the manager of Stem Cells Ltd, handling all aspects of operations and business development for our core facilities in Uni. of QLD and Uni. of Melbourne.
During my PhD, I co-founded an online intern-recruitment firm, a web-design consultancy and helped close a strategic partnership between Dendright Pty Ltd and Janssen-Cilag Pty Ltd for a Rheumatoid Arthritis therapy while working at UniQuest Pty Ltd as a Commercialization Analyst Intern. However, my proudest accomplishment was when Queensland Government's Premier Campbell Newman selected me as a Premier’s Open Data Award Finalist and I secured funding for my mobile app that allows blind and/or deaf Australians to use public transport independently. I am also currently building a not-for-profit that aims to help visually-impaired Australians.
