Courtney McDonald
Dr Courtney McDonald is a post-doctoral research fellow, working in the Neurodevelopment and Neuroprotection Research Group at The Ritchie Centre. She is a stem cell biologist, who completed her PhD at Monash University in 2013 under the supervision of Professor Claude Bernard in the Multiple Sclerosis Research Group. Her PhD studies focused on applying stem cell therapies for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis. She currently works at The Ritchie Centre, where she is involved in trying to understand how stem cell therapies, namely amnion epithelial cells and cord blood stem cells, can be used to prevent or treat brain injury that occurs in babies during pregnancy or at the time of birth. She has a passion for clinical translation and is involved in many pre-clinical trials that are evaluating the effectiveness of amnion epithelial cells. She is also very interested in what stem cell types are found in the cord blood and how each of these cells can reduce inflammation and help repair brain damage.
